statement
For some years Ton van Os has been working on a series of paintings with the common title To Morton Feldman. Not only does classical and modern composed music play an important rol in the lif of the artist, but it also has a big influence on his work. Some years ago he madework that was inspired by music of Johan Sebastiaan Bach.Just like Morton Feldman (died in 1987) was inspired by like-minded artists such as Mondriaan, Rothko, Johns, Pollock, Rauschenberg and Guston (a well-known, lengthy composition of Feldman is For Philip Guston), Ton van Os reflects on the work of this composer.
To Morton Feldman breathes the openness of the man's musical compositions. The paintings show fields of repetitive circular forms of column-like structures with shifting colorpatterns. Although they have been constructed intuitivly, Van Os' paintings now show a strict order, then suggest a random operation.
Eventually Ton van Os hopes to collect the different parts of To Morton Feldman permanently in a therefor apt space, referring to the series of paintings that Mark Rothko made for a chapel in Houston, Texas (Rothko Chapel)
